if a co-worker commented on your new haircut, saying, “Wow, you look SO much thinner.”?
What the…???? Was that a compliment? Uh… I think she meant it as one, that’s the sad thing.
It does make one a little self-conscious, though.
I’m going to not think about it now, since about 100 kids gave me props for my haircut today, and managed NOT to insult me in the process. 
Honestly…people are such goombas!
Someone asked me the other day if I had just rolled out of bed–I had been working in an office for a few hours and had actually fixed my hair that day! hmph!
I know, and “goombas” is the perfect word to describe it, too!
And “just rolled out of bed”? Don’t you just hate that? It’s almost as bad as, “Oh, you don’t look like you feel well…” I always say, “Oh, I feel great- what do you mean??”, even if I don’t!
An “associate or accomplice, esp. a senior member of a criminal gang”? Huh?

Ha, The other day my Dad said “you look really pretty tonight, for some reason”..and I’m thinking, For some reason??? I told him I was wearing make-up and combed my hair and maybe that was it. Then I said thanks.
I’m sure he didn’t mean it the way it sounded. Hmm, Maybe he did.
By the way, I like the hair cut. It looks really nice on you. It makes you look smarter. hehe. I think those are caled “back handed” compliments.
I am getting to the point where if I like what I see in the mirror before I leave the apartment, then I don’t care what others think. Of course, if I’m less than impressed with my visage…

I was on the reverse end of this last night. A woman at my church looks…well, prettier than usual…I wanted to compliment her, but after reading this, I just couldn’t figure out how to say it without sounding like I was insulting her, ya know. I mean, she’s always pretty, but last night she’d done something different and…….sigh….
So is a “prop” always a compliment? I’m trying to understand this.
Karen, do you feel out of touch? I sure do! I am going to try using this word, props, sometime. Maybe we could practice it on each other!! Wow, you become a stay-at-home mom and age a few years and your completely out of touch with the lingo!
We’ll have teenagers before we know it and we’ll be “in the know” again!
